Detailed Solution & Explanation

The correct answer is Dr. S.P. Vaid.

Key Points

• Dr Shesh Paul Vaid was the Director General of Police of Jammu & Kashmir at the time this paper was set in 2017.
• B.B. Vyas was then the Chief Secretary of the State, not the DGP.

Additional Information

• This is a time-bound question, correct for 2017 only; it should not be revised as a current fact. Dilbag Singh succeeded him in 2018.
• The DGP is the senior-most police officer of a state or union territory, heading the entire state police force.
• The police hierarchy runs DGP → ADGP → IGP → DIG → SSP/SP → ASP/DySP → Inspector → Sub-Inspector → ASI → Head Constable → Constable.
